Why This Site Exists
Iowa makes many custody and court records available through public offices, but the records are not kept in one place. The Adair County Sheriff's Office operates the Adair County Jail / Adair County Public Safety Center for recent arrests, pretrial custody, short local sentences, and local holds. The Iowa Department of Corrections uses a separate locator for sentenced prisoners, work release, parole, probation, and community-based corrections. Federal prisoners use the BOP locator, while immigration detention questions use ICE's Online Detainee Locator System.
Adair County did not have an official online jail roster or mugshot gallery located in the research for this build. Because of that, this site emphasizes the official phone, email, fax, mail, in-person, court, Iowa DOC, VINELink, BOP, and ICE paths rather than pretending that one local roster page answers every question.
